The 50th season of CBS's 'Survivor' introduced a game-changing twist where a coin flip by YouTuber MrBeast doubled the prize money for winner Aubry Bracco to $2 million.

MrBeast's Involvement

Executive Producer Matt Van Wagenen revealed that MrBeast, a fan of 'Survivor', collaborated with the production team to devise a twist that felt true to the show. They settled on a high-stakes coin flip, with MrBeast contributing an extra $1 million if the contestant called it correctly. Otherwise, the prize would remain $1 million, and the contestant would be eliminated during the tribal council.

Behind the Scenes

The twist was revealed to contestants during tribal council, catching them off-guard after a day of speculation. Rick Devens, the coin flipper, shared that many expected MrBeast to offer bribes to leave the game. Jeff Probst, the host, had reservations about the twist, as it left a player's fate to chance.

The coin, crafted by the 'Survivor' art department, featured a MrBeast logo and 'Survivor' elements. A lawyer ensured the flip was fair, emphasizing a one-flip contract even if complications arose, such as the coin landing on its edge.

The Flip and Its Impact

Devens volunteered for the flip, calling heads, which it landed on, securing the doubled prize for Bracco. Probst was surprised by Devens' quick decision, expecting a need to persuade someone to take the risk. Bracco acknowledged Devens' instinct, saying he was "born to flip this coin."

Filming the flip posed challenges, with dim lighting at the tribal council. Extra cameras and a director of photography were brought in to capture the moment, which Devens described as "the most cinematic flip ever." Fellow contestant Ozzy Lusth was the first to confirm the result, shouting "It's heads!"

Aftermath and Legacy

Probst called it an "indescribable moment" when revealing the coin's side to the cameras, noting the effort invested in the season. Devens received the coin as a memento, joking that while Bracco benefits from the $2 million, he keeps the lucky coin.
