Spencer Pratt, a candidate for Los Angeles mayor, is reportedly negotiating a new reality TV series, but his team denies any confirmed deal or filming.
Pratt's Political and Entertainment Ambitions
Spencer Pratt, once a prominent figure in reality TV, is now a serious contender in Los Angeles politics, challenging incumbent Mayor Karen Bass. Although his primary focus is the upcoming June 2 mayoral primary, there are rumors about turning his political campaign into a televised reality series reminiscent of his MTV days.
Rumored Deal with Boardwalk Pictures
According to TMZ, Pratt is not living in a trailer on his Pacific Palisades lot as claimed, but at the Hotel Bel-Air. On May 14, TMZ reported that Pratt had “inked a deal” for a series about his campaign and potential term in office. The report suggested a collaboration with Boardwalk Pictures, known for Hulu’s Welcome to Wrexham and Netflix’s Cheer, with filming involving Pratt, his wife Heidi Montag, and their children.
Official Stance from Pratt's Team
Pratt’s spokesperson refuted the TMZ report, stating to The Hollywood Reporter: “This is a non-starter as there is no signed contract. Nothing has been pitched, nothing has been filmed, there is no contact or deal of any sort in existence. Cameras have not been rolling and there are no plans at all for cameras to film.”
Boardwalk Pictures and Potential Directors
Despite the denial, The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Boardwalk Pictures has approached potential directors for the project. The production company has a track record with documentaries like Val, The Black Godfather, and aka Charlie Sheen.
Pratt's Reality TV Background and Support
Spencer Pratt rose to fame as the villain on MTV’s The Hills, later appearing on shows like I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! and Celebrity Big Brother. Prior to The Hills, he produced The Princes of Malibu, a short-lived series on Fox. Music producer David Foster recently hosted a fundraising event for Pratt, where Katharine McPhee performed. Pratt’s campaign donors include Jeff Jenkins, producer of The Simple Life and Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
Pratt expressed frustration over recent years in getting new projects greenlit. Last October, he mentioned to The Hollywood Reporter his ongoing struggles, saying, “Technically, we are still alive at Hulu.” His team at WME suggested that not being passed on is considered a success today.
