Leaked images reveal Sony's 10th anniversary ColleXion headphones, expected to launch tomorrow, showcasing a design overhaul and new features, according to OnLeaks and HotEUDeals.
Design Enhancements
The Sony 1000X ColleXion Edition features thicker leatherette padding and enlarged earcups compared to the WH-1000XM6 series. The headphones will be available in black and white, with color-matched metallic yokes connecting the headband to the drivers. The buttons are more distinct, and the microphone grilles feature larger holes.
Price and Specifications
Set to retail at $649 in the US, the ColleXion headphones exceed the XM6 flagship price by $200. Marketing slides suggest a battery life of up to 24 hours with active noise cancellation, or 32 hours without. The noise cancellation technology is powered by a V3 co-processor, supplementing the existing QN3 chip found in the XM6.
Sony has collaborated with Battery Studios, Sterling Sound, and Coast Mastering to fine-tune the audio drivers, ensuring premium sound quality. These studios have previously mastered Grammy-winning records.
Accessories and Launch Details
The headphones come with a carry case, USB-C charging cable, and a 3.5mm audio cable. The case, resembling a handbag, features a magnetic closure, departing from Sony's usual zipper design. The ColleXion’s design choices signal a push towards a more premium aesthetic.
The official launch is anticipated on May 19th, following a brief appearance of the “ColleXion” name on Sony’s website in April, along with the model number “WH-1000XX.”
