Sony has launched the Reon Pocket Pro Plus, an upgraded version of its wearable personal air conditioner, initially introduced in 2019 for the Tokyo Olympics. This latest model refines the previous Pro version with performance and design improvements, allowing for discreet use under various shirt types. The device is now available in Europe and other markets, priced at €229/£199, or approximately $270. The company has not announced plans for a U.S. release.
Improved Cooling Technology
The Reon Pocket Pro Plus does not function like the Dyson HushJet Mini Cool by simply blowing air; it instead uses a chilled metal plate pressed against the skin, similar to Shark’s ChillPill accessory. The updated model includes flexible arms for a secure fit around the neck and has decreased the plate's surface temperature by two additional degrees Celsius. Sony claims an “evolved cooling algorithm” provides a 20 percent boost in cooling performance over last year's model.
Design Enhancements
The new design of the Reon Pocket Pro Plus features an adjustable exhaust vent, enabling users to extend its length and change its angle to direct warm air away from the body, even when wearing a high-collared shirt. This feature aims to enhance comfort and usability in various clothing styles.
Additional Features
The Reon Pocket Pro Plus is compatible with the new Reon Pocket Tag 2 sensor, which is 18 percent smaller than its predecessor. This sensor can be hung from a strap or carabiner, away from the body, to provide more accurate temperature and humidity readings. These enhancements are designed to improve the overall user experience by offering more precise environmental data and a more comfortable fit.
While the focus for this launch remains on European and other select markets, Sony's decision not to expand to the U.S. market leaves American consumers waiting for future announcements. As the demand for wearable technology grows, Sony's innovations in personal cooling devices continue to attract attention in regions with warmer climates.
