The season finale of “Saturday Night Live U.K.” aired on May 16, featuring a comedic sketch where Britain’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer's residence was humorously invaded by political rivals and a former leader.
Real Estate Tour Turns Chaotic
The sketch kicked off with Wes Streeting, portrayed by Jack Shep, a former health secretary, being shown around 10 Downing Street by a real estate agent. Their tour was comically interrupted by former Conservative Prime Minister Liz Truss, who emerged from a cupboard exclaiming, “Give me another chance.”
Streeting quipped about the property's appeal, asking, “There must be some kind of catch.” The real estate agent humorously replied, “Yeah, there is a bit of a catch. If you live here, everyone in the country is going to hate you.” Streeting, unfazed, said, “That’s okay, I don’t have any feelings.”
Political Parody Continues
Joining the fray was Andy Burnham, played by Paddy Young, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, advocating for change as an outsider and disrupter. Streeting quickly retorted, “Weren’t you an MP for 16 years? You voted for the Iraq War.”
Angela Rayner, embodied by Celeste Dring, made her entrance as the former deputy prime minister who resigned over a stamp duty scandal. She queried, “How much do you reckon stamp duty is in a place like this? And would I have to pay it?”
Starmer's Eurovision Escape
Amidst the comedic chaos, Prime Minister Keir Starmer, portrayed by George Fouracres, descended the stairs in a red nightdress, complaining about the noise disrupting his Eurovision night. “This is the one program I still enjoy,” he lamented. “Every time I turn on the news, it’s just a sad picture of me. ‘Eurovision’ is the only show left with any integrity. I love how they stood up to Russia after they invaded Ukraine. And I love the wonderful song Israel sang.”
Frustrated, he demanded, “You know what, all of you out, because as far as I know, I’m still the Prime Minister, and I will be for at least the next 75 minutes.”
Star-Studded Episode
The episode was hosted by “Doctor Who” star Ncuti Gatwa, with indie-pop singer-songwriter Holly Humberstone as the musical guest, adding a star-studded touch to the season finale.
