Ron Howard and Brian Grazer confirmed they are considering a sequel to their 2000 hit How the Grinch Stole Christmas, during a discussion at the UCLA Entertainment Symposium.
Jim Carrey's Return
Howard is set to direct Jim Carrey reprising his role as the Grinch. "It's something we've thought about for a long time," Howard told The Hollywood Reporter editor-in-chief Maer Roshan. Carrey, despite past difficulties with the Grinch costume, is eager to return. Grazer recalled Carrey's initial struggles and the unconventional methods used to alleviate his discomfort, including advice from a State Department survival expert.
Success of YouTube Filmmakers
The duo also discussed the impact of YouTube filmmakers, citing the success of films like Obsession and Backrooms. Howard compared the current shift to the 'Easy Rider' era, emphasizing the unique cultural tone these young filmmakers bring. "It's a generational shift," he noted, while Grazer cautioned against Hollywood's pursuit of YouTubers as a passing trend.
