Phil Collins, in an interview with BBC Breakfast, revealed he declined performing at the 2026 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony but remains open to future live gigs, sharing a positive health update.
Health Challenges and Recovery
Collins, who has faced significant health issues over the years, including kidney problems and five knee surgeries, stated, “I can’t really see it happening. But I’m healthier now than I have been for quite a while.” The musician, known for his hit “In the Air Tonight,” has faced challenges since a spinal injury in 2007.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction
Collins was asked to perform at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony, an honor he previously received with Genesis in 2010. Declining the offer, Collins remarked, “You’ve got to be match fit to do something like that. You can’t just go on stage and...your voice is going to be shot.”
Future Performance Prospects
The eight-time Grammy Award winner shared his willingness to consider future performances, stating, “But whether I would go out again, I would contemplate, yeah. I’m constantly saying to myself, I better go back down into my studio at home.”
Living with Health Support
In a BBC Two interview, Collins elaborated on his health, revealing he lives with 24-hour care, “I have a 24-hour live-in nurse to make sure I take my medication as I should.” His health struggles were compounded by kidney issues linked to past drinking, though Collins is now sober.
Reflecting on his past, Collins noted, “I’d probably been drinking too much, and so my kidneys were messed up, you know...I spent months in hospital.” Despite past challenges, Collins has hope for recovery and potential future performances.
