Paul McCartney believes that playing 'Hey Jude' can momentarily unite divided audiences in Trump's America, as he shared on 'The Rest Is Entertainment' podcast. The Beatles' legend noted that despite political tensions between Republicans and Democrats, the iconic song brings people together, creating a rare moment of harmony.

Music as a Unifying Force

On the podcast, McCartney described the experience: 'You do something like ‘Hey Jude’ and you see this whole audience singing together. In Trump’s America, with Republicans and Democrats at each other’s throats, they’re all loving it, and it’s like, wow, this is pretty amazing.' He emphasized the power of such moments, saying, 'Suddenly this room has forgotten all of that, and it’s not going to argue with each other; they’re just going to sing together. So those kinds of things, I think, are valuable.'

Recent Performances in Los Angeles

In March, McCartney performed two intimate shows in Los Angeles which featured 'Hey Jude' among other classics like 'Lady Madonna,' 'Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da,' 'Get Back,' 'Let It Be,' and 'Blackbird.' The performances were well-received, demonstrating the enduring appeal of The Beatles' music.

Other Artists' Views on Political Division

McCartney is not alone in addressing the divisiveness of Trump's America. Bruce Springsteen, also on tour, frequently criticizes the political climate. Speaking to the Minnesota Star Tribune, Springsteen remarked on the country's challenges and the impact on values and ideas. He expressed little concern about potential backlash, saying, 'My job is very simple: I do what I want to do, I say what I want to say and then people get to say what they want to say about it.'

Springsteen added, 'The blowback is just part of it. I’m ready for all that,' highlighting his commitment to his cultural role despite potential audience alienation.
