Morgan Wandell is leaving Apple TV, where he led international development for nearly a decade, to launch his own production company, Kismet. The new company, based in Los Angeles, will focus on premium scripted series for the international market.
Launching Kismet
Wandell announced Kismet's launch on Wednesday, stating that details about the leadership team and initial projects will be disclosed later. Kismet aims to develop and produce high-end, culturally rooted storytelling that appeals to global audiences.
"The opportunity to serve as an entrepreneur and producer in the growing white space for premium series for the global marketplace is one I couldn’t pass up and one that audiences are embracing," Wandell said in a statement.
Wandell's Impact at Apple TV
Joining Apple TV before its launch in October 2017, Wandell was instrumental in building the international division. His slate included notable projects like "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" and its upcoming spin-off starring Wyatt Russell, "Tehran," "Acapulco," "Masters of the Air" by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, and Alfonso Cuarón's "Disclaimer" and "The New Look."
"Helping to build Apple TV’s international slate has been the privilege of my career," Wandell expressed, thanking his colleagues and partners. Despite the difficult decision to leave Apple, Wandell had always aspired to establish his own company.
Future Collaborations and Past Achievements
Wandell is in discussions with Apple TV to produce several projects under the Kismet banner. Before Apple, he ran Amazon’s drama division and created its international development team, overseeing series like "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel," "Goliath," and "Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan." He also led Prime Video’s international expansion with Indian originals such as "The Family Man" and "Mirzapur."
Wandell spent a significant part of his career at ABC Studios, managing hits like "Lost," "Desperate Housewives," and "Grey’s Anatomy." His extensive experience in the industry has positioned him as a key figure in international television production.
Industry Impact
Kismet's launch marks a new chapter in Wandell's career, offering him the chance to leverage his experience and respond to the increasing demand for global storytelling. His track record suggests that Kismet will become a significant player in the international television market.
