Michael Fassbender is in talks to join Brady Corbet's upcoming film, rumored to be titled "The Origin of the World," according to Variety.
Film Background
The project follows Corbet's 2024 epic "The Brutalist," which earned 10 Oscar nominations including Best Actor for Adrien Brody. While details remain scarce, Corbet has teased that the film will be X-rated and primarily set in the 1970s.
"The film spans from the 19th century into the present day — it’s just predominantly focused on the ’70s. The film is really, really genre-defying," Corbet stated in a 2025 interview. The film will reportedly be shot using rare eight-perf 65mm cameras, adding to its distinctiveness.
Production Team
David Kaplan and Andrew Morrison will produce the film under their Kaplan Morrison production banner. This collaboration marks Corbet's fourth directorial effort, following "The Childhood of a Leader," "Vox Lux," and "The Brutalist." His partner, Mona Fastvold, with whom he co-wrote most of his films, directed last year's "The Testament of Ann Lee."
Fassbender's Current Projects
Fassbender, a two-time Oscar nominee and four-time BAFTA nominee, is currently in Cannes promoting the South Korean sci-fi thriller "Hope," directed by Na Hong-jin. The film features an ensemble cast including Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, Jung Ho-yeon, Taylor Russell, Cameron Britton, and Alicia Vikander.
Recently, Fassbender starred in Steven Soderbergh's espionage thriller "Black Bag" and the Irish hit "Kneecap." He also appears in the Paramount+ spy series "The Agency: Central Intelligence."
Additional Cast
Selena Gomez was previously reported to be involved in the film by The Insneider, although her role remains undisclosed.
The film's production details and casting are generating significant interest as Corbet continues to build his reputation for innovative and genre-defying cinema.
