Iain Stirling Talks 'Love Island USA' Narration

Comedian Iain Stirling, known for his role as the narrator on 'Love Island USA' and its U.K. counterpart, continues to bring his signature humor to the reality series, despite the challenges of juggling both shows. Stirling, who has been with the U.S. version since season four, expressed his excitement about returning to narrate both shows this year, even if it means sacrificing some sleep.

Balancing Two Shows

Stirling remarked on the demanding schedule, noting, "There are nurses and doctors and firefighters across America listening to me going, 'Oh, for six weeks I've got to write 30 jokes instead of 20.' It's an honor." He credits his ability to manage this hectic pace to his supportive family and strategic planning.

Crafting the Humor

Stirling's role involves quick turnaround times, often requiring him to write and record voiceovers within hours. "We start at half eight at night, which is first thing in the morning Fiji time, and finish at 2:30 in the morning," Stirling explained. This tight schedule demands his stand-up comedy skills, enabling him to create around 20-25 jokes per episode.

Adjusting to Different Audiences

The comedian mentioned the need to tailor his jokes for different audiences, acknowledging, "The sensitivities are really different around America and the U.K., and that was a thing to adjust to." Despite these challenges, Stirling enjoys the creative freedom, saying, "I'm a stand-up comedian, so it's kind of my job to push it as far as I can get away with."

Narrating Cultural Differences

Stirling has observed cultural differences between the U.S. and U.K. versions of 'Love Island'. He notes, "Americans seem to kiss too soon," and admires their emotional openness, something he sees as beneficial for personal growth. Stirling also finds humor in the show's chaotic nature, which he describes as nostalgic for his youth.

Stirling continues to enjoy his role as narrator, balancing it with his stand-up career. He has a special available on Prime Video and another in the works. Despite the demanding schedule, Stirling shows no signs of slowing down, stating, "As long as I can still do all those things, I see absolutely no reason why I'd stop doing it."
