Halide Mark III App Unveiled with Film Looks

Lux Optics has launched the Halide Mark III camera app for iPhone and iPad, featuring a new film simulation engine and five distinct Looks co-developed with Hollywood colorist Cullen Kelly. These Looks cater to landscape photography, portraits, cityscapes, and include a black-and-white option with extra film grain.

Pricing and Compatibility

The app is available on the App Store for a one-time purchase of $59.99 or a $19.99/year subscription. Existing Halide Mark II users receive a free upgrade. It supports devices running iOS 18 or later and iPads with iPadOS 18 or later.

New Photo Lab Feature

While iPads might not be the first choice for photography, Halide Mark III introduces a new Photo Lab feature—a streamlined photo editor fitting larger screens. Users can apply Looks, toggle HDR, and adjust exposure in the Quick Edit section. Advanced controls include cropping, aspect ratio, white balance, and a Tone Fusion tool for detail recovery in shadows and highlights.

RAW Image Processing

For the first time, Halide Mark III supports RAW file processing from major camera brands like Sony, Nikon, Canon, Fujifilm, Hasselblad, and Leica, although this feature is currently in beta, according to DPReview.

Interface Improvements

The app's interface has been redesigned, keeping critical controls within easy reach, with advanced options accessible via an iOS three-dot menu. Users preferring the previous version can revert to the Halide Mark II interface.
