The season three finale of Euphoria delivered a shocking twist with the death of its main character, Rue, portrayed by Zendaya, leaving fans stunned.
Tragic Events Unfold
In the episode, Rue narrowly escapes Wayne, played by Toby Wallace, after Faye betrays her. The aftermath of Nate Jacobs' death, portrayed by Jacob Elordi, sees Maddy and Cassie in mourning.
Alamo, played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, provides Rue with money and time off but deliberately leaves a bottle of pills, aware that Rue will take them. As Rue heads to Ali's home, Laurie’s drug cartel faces a raid, leading Laurie to take her own life, uttering, "I can’t go to prison."
Rue’s Heartbreaking End
While at Ali's, Rue learns from the news that Fezco, played by Angus Cloud, has escaped prison. A dream sequence follows, showing Rue with Fezco and reuniting with her mother, Leslie. Ali discovers Rue dead from fentanyl-laced Percocet pills, marking a tragic end for the character who battled addiction throughout the series.
Ali, portrayed by Colman Domingo, seeks vengeance for Rue's death, confronting and killing Alamo at his strip club.
Shifts for Other Characters
Maddy and Cassie devise a plan to rent out rooms in Cassie and Nate’s house to OnlyFans models to pay off debts, transforming it into a hype house. Meanwhile, other main cast members like Lexi and Jules seem sidelined. Jules appears in a single, silent scene, while Lexi helps Cassie and Maddy, burdened by guilt over Rue’s fate.
Cassie hides the truth about Nate's fate from Lexi, claiming he simply disappeared.
Series Future Uncertain
Series creator Sam Levinson had stated that season three would explore choices and consequences. With Rue's death, the show's future and potential continuation remain uncertain.
