Courtney A. Kemp, known for her success with Power, has made her explosive Netflix debut with Nemesis, a crime drama that promises to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. The series, co-created with fiancé Tani Marole, stars Matthew Law and Y’lan Noel in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse.
Creating Nemesis
Kemp's move to Netflix followed a lucrative production deal signed in August 2021. Despite challenges, including the loss of her brother, Kemp found herself returning to the world of crime dramas with Nemesis. “I’m actually passionate about it, and it’s so great to find that again,” she shared.
Dynamic Characters and Plot
The eight-episode series stars Matthew Law as LAPD detective Isaiah Stiles and Y’lan Noel as master criminal Coltrane Wilder. The storyline features intense heists, a massive shootout, and a gripping finale where Kemp refuses to wrap up neatly, saying, “We did not want Coltrane to get caught.”
Influence and Inspiration
Kemp acknowledges her influences, comparing her originality to Bruno Mars. “I don’t think people understand why Power works,” she stated, emphasizing her unique storytelling style that blends various TV influences into something new.
Looking Ahead
Though Netflix asked for a wrap-up, Kemp left the door open for a second season. “We have definitely ended the season where Coltrane’s gonna have to go find his wife,” she hinted. Kemp, who stepped away from daily operations of Power after season two of Ghost, remains involved in its spinoffs, expressing excitement for upcoming projects.
