Catherine Corcoran Named Raindance Horror Ambassador

Catherine Corcoran, known for her work in the horror genre, has been appointed as the first horror ambassador for the Raindance Film Festival. This appointment coincides with the launch of Raindance’s new horror programming slate, and is in partnership with her production company, FareStream Pictures.

Corcoran's Genre Impact

Corcoran’s contributions to horror include films such as Terrifier, Terrifier 2, Return to Nuke ‘Em High Volume 1 & 2, Long Lost, Faceless After Dark, If It Bleeds, and Big Baby. Last year, she made headlines with a lawsuit related to the Terrifier franchise.

“Independent horror has always thrived by creating community first,” Corcoran said. “Raindance has spent decades championing fearless filmmakers and queer artists and I’m honored to help expand a platform that celebrates voices redefining the genre.”

Rise in Original Horror

Corcoran’s appointment comes at a time when original horror is gaining momentum. Curry Barker’s Obsession, produced independently for $750,000, has grossed over $300 million globally, marking Focus Features’ highest-grossing film. Similarly, A24’s Backrooms, directed by 20-year-old Kane Parsons, achieved $265 million globally, becoming the studio’s top-grossing film.

Raindance Expansion

Founded in London in 1993, Raindance is the UK’s largest independent film festival. This year, the festival introduces the Roger Corman Award for Best Horror Feature and expands its horror lineup. The festival’s Icon Awards will honor Miriam Margolyes, Brian Cox, and Lloyd Kaufman, with appearances by Connor Storrie, Kit Harington, Jane Fonda, and Robert Englund.

FareStream Pictures

Corcoran launched FareStream Pictures in November, focusing on emotionally charged stories featuring women and underrepresented voices. Raindance’s new horror programming, in collaboration with Corcoran and FareStream, aims to strengthen ties among filmmakers, fans, and the global horror community, advocating for emerging voices.

The Raindance Film Festival runs through June 26 in central London.
