‘The Book of Mormon’ will resume its Broadway performances on May 21 after a fire disrupted shows at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre on May 4.
Fire Disrupts Broadway Run
On May 4, a fire broke out at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre, home to the hit musical ‘The Book of Mormon’. The incident led to the cancellation of performances through May 20. Despite the disruption, the building was safely evacuated, though one firefighter sustained injuries while combating the blaze.
Swift Recovery Efforts
“The work inside the theatre is being completed by an extraordinary team that has made tremendous progress,” a spokesperson for the production stated. The statement confirmed that on its current timeline, the show will return to the stage on Thursday, May 21. ATG Entertainment, the owners and operators of the O’Neill, expressed gratitude to the FDNY and the Department of Buildings for their assistance during the repair process.
Cast and Anniversary Celebrations
The current cast of ‘The Book of Mormon’ includes Kevin Clay as Elder Price, Diego Enrico as Elder Cunningham, and Sydney Quildon as Nabulungi. Other notable cast members are Charlie Franklin as Elder McKinley and Jacques C. Smith as Mafala Hatimbi. The musical, which won nine Tony Awards in 2011 including Best Musical, originally featured Andrew Rannells and Josh Gad in the lead roles.
To celebrate the show’s 15th anniversary, the Eugene O’Neill Theatre box office will reopen on May 15 at 10:00 a.m. The first 50 attendees can purchase up to two $15 tickets each for select summer performances.
