The Ali Forney Center's 'A Place at The Table' gala, held at The Glasshouse in Chelsea, combined style and philanthropy, raising $3 million to support LGBTQIA+ youth. The event, marked by a 'queer chic' dress code, saw attendees in sequined and crystal-studded attire.

Fashion and Fundraising

Actor and Center board member Tommy Dorfman, in a sheer Bode tunic, remarked on the unique fashion, saying, 'The looks are always looking.' Guests like Celine Song, Gus Kenworthy, and Cynthia Rowley joined the event, which began with a cocktail reception and silent auction featuring LGBTQIA+ artists' work.

Honoring Allies

Drag queen Plasma hosted the awards ceremony, honoring Chappell Roan, Liev and Taylor Schreiber, and Gia Love for their contributions to the Center. 'The work that they do, and the scale they do it at, is truly extraordinary,' Liev Schreiber commented, acknowledging his wife's influence.

The evening also featured a live auction led by Marti Gould Cummings and Letitia Frye, raising over $600,000 with prizes like a Nile River cruise and tennis lessons with the McEnroe brothers.

Inspiring Messages

Honoree Taylor Schreiber praised her stepdaughter, Kai Schreiber, as 'one of the strongest people I have ever known.' Chappell Roan, unable to attend, sent a video message emphasizing the importance of recognizing trans contributions to LGBTQIA+ rights.

Roan said, 'Trans people deserve a spotlight for all the work they do, not only for gay and queer people, but for all humans.' Her message resonated, underscoring the event's themes of support and advocacy.

Looking Ahead

The gala concluded with a vogueing performance and an array of desserts. Alexander Roque, Center president and executive director, highlighted the ongoing need for allyship, saying, 'My greatest hope is that guests attending tonight will understand the opportunity they have to make a difference.'

Roque stressed the importance of transitioning from allies to accomplices in supporting LGBTQIA+ communities and addressing the legal and social challenges they face.

Ultimately, the Ali Forney Center's gala succeeded in both raising funds and awareness, celebrating those who contribute to the cause and inspiring continued support and education.
