A24 has clinched the global rights to Jordan Firstman's film Club Kid following a competitive bidding war at Cannes, outpacing major players such as Focus Features, Searchlight, Netflix, and Mubi.

Intense Bidding War

The film, a heartfelt family comedy set in the New York club scene, attracted significant attention. A24's aggressive bid reportedly reached eight figures, securing worldwide distribution rights. The company plans to sell the film to international buyers beyond its existing network, which includes Leonine in Germany and Austria, and Nordisk Film in Scandinavia.

Star-Studded Cast

Club Kid marks Firstman's directorial debut, featuring him alongside Cara Delevigne, Diego Calva, and newcomer Reggie Absolom. The film, which premiered in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes last week, received enthusiastic reviews, igniting interest from buyers.

In the film, Firstman portrays a disillusioned party promoter whose life takes a turn when a son he didn't know existed appears, a result of a decade-old encounter.

Production and Representation

The production team includes Oscar winner Alex Coco (Anora), Galen Core (Lurker), Ryan Heller, and Michael Bloom from Topic Studios, which also financed the film alongside Stay Gold. Executive producers include Ian Stratford, Charles Croft, Jasmine Daghighian, Olmo Schnabel, and Daniela Taplin.

UTA Independent Film Group handled negotiations for the filmmakers, with Charades International facilitating the Cannes launch. Firstman is represented by UTA, Black Bear, and other agencies, while Delevingne, Calva, and Absolom have their respective representation.

Future Prospects

The film's acquisition underscores A24's growing influence in the indie film sector and signals strong market interest in distinctive narratives like Club Kid.
