OnePlus Withdraws from US and European Markets

OnePlus has confirmed its long-rumored exit from the US and European markets, officially halting the launch of new products in these regions. Oppo, its parent company, pledges to uphold existing support and warranty agreements, transitioning devices to ColorOS for future updates.

Support Transition to ColorOS

Oppo's senior PR manager in Europe, James Paterson, assured The Verge that 'Software updates and after-sale support will be guaranteed' in both regions. Although specifics on US warranty fulfillment are unclear, Oppo will continue its operations in Europe. Devices will transition from OnePlus’ OxygenOS to Oppo’s ColorOS 'in the coming months,' according to Paterson. Oppo Europe CEO Elvis Zhou mentioned that users could revert to OxygenOS, albeit at the cost of future updates.

Market Presence and Future Plans

While Zhou refrained from detailing which markets OnePlus will remain active in, Bloomberg reported a potential withdrawal from India and all but the Chinese market by next year. Oppo PR representative Nicole Okpokiri confirmed to The Verge that 'OnePlus’ product roadmap in China remains unchanged,' leaving room for speculation.

Okpokiri also announced that Realme, Oppo’s other sub-brand, will undergo restructuring, focusing on international markets and halting new product launches in China.

Employee Impact and Future Releases

On the topic of workforce changes due to OnePlus’ downsizing, Zhou stated that adjustments adhered to 'relevant laws and regulations,' with some employees offered roles within Oppo. Details on the number of employees retained or dismissed remain undisclosed.

Despite the market shift, OnePlus plans to release its next flagship model, the OnePlus 16, though its availability outside China is uncertain. Oppo is set to introduce its Find X10 series, with industry rumors hinting at a foldable phone to compete with upcoming Samsung and Apple models.
