Lionsgate has unveiled an updated poster for La La Land to mark its 10th anniversary, correcting Ryan Gosling's hand pose that he humorously claimed haunted him for years.
Poster Update for Theatrical Re-Release
The new artwork coincides with the film's return to Dolby Cinema at AMC Theatres on August 16. The Oscar-winning musical will once again light up theaters, and a La La Land musical is also in development for Broadway.
Original Pose Regret
In the original 2016 poster, Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling are seen dancing against the Los Angeles skyline. While Stone's hand is gracefully extended, Gosling's is flat—a decision he later joked about regretting. Speaking to The Wall Street Journal in 2024, Gosling reflected, "There's a moment that haunts me where we're dancing, Emma and I, and I didn’t know this would become the poster for the movie."
He added, "Even though everyone told me it wasn’t cool, I was sure it was cooler. Now when I look at it, and I have to see it all the time, you know what would’ve been cooler... [the correct pose]. It just killed the energy that way. I call it La La hand."
Gosling's Humorous Correction
Earlier this year, Gosling poked fun at the mistake while promoting Project Hail Mary, releasing a video in March where he finally corrected his "La La hand." Directed by Damien Chazelle, La La Land follows aspiring actress Mia (Stone) and jazz musician Sebastian (Gosling) as they navigate their Hollywood dreams and romance.
Film's Legacy
La La Land clinched six Academy Awards, including best director for Chazelle and best actress for Stone. It's also remembered for the infamous best picture mix-up at the 2017 Oscars, when La La Land was mistakenly announced as the winner before Moonlight rightfully claimed the award.
